Dr. Balaji Kalyanaraman, MD, PhD, is a board-certified urologist who serves as Chair of Surgery at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Cincinnati Magazine in January 2026, he brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, surgical leadership, and biomedical engineering research to the care of his patients. Dr. Kalyanaraman earned his medical degree (M.B.B.S.) from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai, India, and completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He went on to complete his urology residency and chief residency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Genitourinary Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota. His clinical interests include robotic surgery, genitourinary reconstruction, urologic prosthetic surgery, endourology, and minimally invasive focal therapy for prostate cancer. In addition to leading surgical and quality initiatives at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Dr. Kalyanaraman serves on the health system’s Medical Executive Committee and Robotics Steering Committee. An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Kalyanaraman has contributed extensively to the fields of tissue engineering, targeted prostate diagnostics, and advanced urologic surgical techniques. His work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international scientific meetings. He is an active member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, and the Society of Robotic Surgery.
